Evening of Shadows: The Unseen Terror of Carrie White

Inspired by Stephen King's novel: Carrie

It was the eve of another ordinary day in the sleepy town of Chamberlain, Maine. The streets were silent, the only sound breaking the stillness was the rustling of leaves against the evening breeze. On Carlin Street, a light flickered dimly through the drawn curtains of a dilapidated house – the White home.

At that moment, a low whimper echoed through the house. Mrs. Margaret White, a woman of rigid faith, knelt in prayer, her voice fervently carrying the words of absolution. It wasn’t for her sake though; it was for her daughter, Carrie.

Carrie, a shy and introverted teenager, was the subject of her mother’s ceaseless prayers. She was no ordinary girl, possessed of a power beyond human comprehension, and that's why she was seen as a sin in her mother’s eyes. Telekinesis, the ability to move things with her mind, was not a gift to Margaret but an unholy curse.

Carrie was always an outcast, not only in her home but also at Ewen High School. The students saw her as a weird loner, the teachers pitied her for her awkward demeanor, and everyone was wary of her strange aura. One incident, however, changed everything.

It was the day of the infamous shower incident. As the girls reveled in their post-gym class showers, Carrie stood alone, basking in the unfamiliar sensation of warm water cascading down her skin. Suddenly, a horrifying experience – her first menstruation – sent the locker room into a hysterical frenzy. The mockery and humiliation from her peers filled the air, the cruel laughter causing Carrie's heart to pound violently in her chest.

In that moment of intense emotion, the lights flickered violently and a showerhead burst, causing scalding water to spray on her tormentors. Shock and disbelief filled the room as Carrie's first public display of telekinesis unfolded.

The incident spurred a series of events that encompassed the town in darkness. Carrie had tasted the bitter power of her abilities, and her desire to be normal, to be accepted, had been replaced by a thirst for retribution.

As the unsuspecting town prepared for the annual high school prom night, no one could have predicted the wrath that awaited them. When the clock struck the final hour, it would not be confetti raining down but a tempest of terror brought on by a young woman scorned.

The story of Carrie White is a haunting tale of alienation and power, a grim reminder that even the meekest among us can harbor the deadliest of abilities, and that fear, humiliation, and revenge form a potent cocktail for disaster.
