Quentin's Leap: A Side Story from Ender's Game
Inspired by Orson Scott Card's novel: Ender's Game
In the depth of the space station, known as Battle School, a young boy named Quentin traveled along the austere corridors, echoes of his name bouncing off the cold metal walls. Quentin, a member of Salamander Army, had been nicknamed 'Shooter' because of his unique ability to pinpoint and destroy his opponents in the Battle Room.
Despite his skills, Quentin felt increasingly isolated as he bore the weight of expectations and the crushing loneliness of space. Today, however, he had a chance encounter that would alter his course forever.
As Quentin roved the labyrinthine passages of the Battle School, a familiar figure walked towards him. Ender Wiggin, the legendary tactician and leader of Dragon Army. Flashing a smile, Ender greeted, 'Shooter, isn't it?' Quentin nodded, his heart pounding.
Ender looked at him thoughtfully, 'I heard about your skills. Care to join Dragon Army?'
Joining Dragon Army was a dream come true for Quentin. He had admired Ender's strategic brilliance and empathetic leadership, so the chance to learn from him was irresistible.
Weeks turned into months as Quentin adapted to Ender's unconventional training regimen. His skills refined, and he learned the true meaning of unity and trust. With time, Quentin also facilitated a higher level of cooperation within the team, allowing Dragon Army to perform at a degree of precision that left observers in awe.
On a fateful day, Quentin and Ender were the last ones standing in a simulated battle against two other armies. Their rest of the team immobilized, it seemed nearly impossible for them to win. Quentin looked at Ender, awaiting orders.
Ender, with an unflappable demeanor, issued a surprising command, 'Quentin, target the enemy gates.' Quentin hesitated; their opponents were between them and the gates! But he trusted Ender and took the shot. Time seemed to freeze as the icy blue beam raced across the Battle Room. It struck the gate with a resonating clang, marking their victory.
This battle cemented Quentin's belief in Ender's leadership. He realized that Ender had not just trained him to be a better soldier, but also a better leader, capable of making difficult decisions.
Their victory spread through the Battle School, strengthening Ender's reputation as a strategic genius and painting Quentin in a new light as a dedicated and competent soldier. From the shadows of his isolation, Quentin emerged as an integral part of Dragon Army, etching his mark in the annals of Battle School.
