The Misadventures of Monopoly Money
Inspired by Janet Evanovich's novel: Fearless Fourteen
The day was just like any other in Trenton, New Jersey, but for Stephanie Plum, things were about to go sideways. As a bond enforcement officer, or 'bounty hunter' in layman's terms, Stephanie had a knack for finding herself in the thick of chaos.
Today, her target was one Dingbat O'Dell, who had failed to appear in court for a series of petty thefts. She had just traced him to an old, rundown house when Lula, a former streetwalker turned file clerk and her loyal sidekick, radioed in.
'He ain't alone, Steph. I saw some shady goons around the house.'
This was going to get complicated, she thought. Unknown to them, O'Dell was unwittingly sitting on a buried fortune, a sum of money that was attracting all the wrong attention. When news got out about the cash, even Stephanie's main love interest, Joe Morelli, an alpha Trenton cop, got pulled into the spiralling situation.
On the other side of the equation was Ranger, a bounty hunter who made a habit of swooping in to save Stephanie from impending doom. Now, with sidekicks Lula and Grandma Mazur, Stephanie had to outwit criminals and find O'Dell before it was too late.
In the storied tradition of Evanovich novels, the search was anything but straightforward. From madcap car chases to an impromptu visit to an all-you-can-eat meatloaf supper at the local church, the team found themselves in a series of uproariously entertaining predicaments.
Stephanie, using her unparalleled instincts, managed to find O'Dell hiding in the very place no one would ever think to look – at his own court hearing. The unexpected discovery led to an explosive showdown, but not before Stephanie found the long-lost hidden stash, which, to everyone's shock, was old Monopoly money.
The day ended with Stephanie back at her apartment, nursing a bottle of beer and eyeing a box of donuts. She was bruised but not broken. After all, as Evanovich fans know all too well, Stephanie Plum can handle whatever mayhem comes her way.
