The Unexpected Return
Inspired by Roald Dahl's novel: The Witches
It had been several months since taking down the Grand High Witch and transforming the witches into mice, yet Luke could still feel a faint tingling of magical energy in the air. His grandmother was no longer worried about unexpected witch attacks, and they both lived a much quieter life away from all the madness. But a strange restlessness grew within Luke.
One day, Luke received a mysterious mail written in a familiar, sophisticated handwriting. It was a warning from the International Secretary of witches - a new Grand High Witch was elected, much meaner and craftier than the last. She wanted revenge for the havoc caused by Luke and his grandmother.
Chills ran down Luke's spine, but he felt a spark of determination grow within him. He shared the news with his grandmother. She smiled, a twinkle in her eye, and said, 'Well then, we better start preparing.'
They meticulously planned their strategy, enlisted the help of their loyal mouse army, and fortified their home against witch magic.
The new Grand High Witch was indeed crafty. She sent her minions disguised as kindly old ladies, but Luke and his grandmother were not so easily fooled. They were ready and waiting with their magic-inducing formula 86 and mouse traps. One after another, the witches fell into their cleverly concealed traps, transforming into harmless mice.
It didn't take long for the Grand High Witch to realize that Luke and his grandmother were not to be underestimated. She decided to take matters into her own hands. She arrived one windy evening, her presence casting a cold, harsh shadow over their quiet home.
Luke was afraid but stood tall beside his grandmother, the concoction in his hand ready to be tossed. His grandmother, enduring, said, 'Remember, Luke, a witch's real weakness is her ego and her greed. Your courage and kindness are your strengths.'
As the Grand High Witch approached menacingly, Luke bravely threw the magical concoction her way. The brew exploded into a cloud of purple smoke, and when it cleared, stood a tiny, bewildered mouse. The new Grand High Witch was defeated, yet again by a young boy and his wise grandmother.
Luke's grandmother cheered, her laughter echoing around their victory-filled home. They both felt a sense of relief wash over them; they had once again saved the world from the clutches of witchcraft. The quiet home was once again safe, and they relished the silence, knowing they had outsmarted the witches yet again.
